Raghuram Rajan and Rahul Gandhi had an open discussion on the Indian economy, unemployment, farmers’ difficulties, and other topics after participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

After spending hours with Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan sat down with the former head of the Congress party on Wednesday for an open discussion in which they covered a wide range of topics, including the Indian economy, unemployment, farmers’ issues, and more.

Rajan said it is a major issue that only four or five businessmen are growing wealthy while the nation struggles. “It’s not only about four or five industrialists; even the upper middle class’s wealth increased nationwide. They were able to avoid going to work throughout the epidemic. The poor, on the other hand, had to work in factories and were not paid, he claimed.

“Extremely poor individuals receive a lot of government assistance.  While the epidemic had little impact on the upper class, the lower-middle class did have more difficulties than they did. Their debts are growing, they’ve lost their jobs, and unemployment is rising. We should make policies to benefit the lower-middle class,” the former RBI governor said.

Rahul Gandhi said that many farmers say that as soon as their crops are ripe, the government changes the rules and the prices of the products fall sharply. “We say that we are there for farmers, but the export and import rules are created for the middle class living in urban India” .

“As an illustration: When onion prices rise, we import, but farmer prices decrease. I believe that import and export regulations should be consistent. We shouldn’t export a lot since it hurts the nation’s farmers “added Rajan.

Raghuram Rajan remarked that the nation is now dealing with a significant problem related to unemployment. “People prefer government positions mostly because of the social security benefits they offer. Only a Few are chosen despite the years of preparation and testing.

I believe that the private sector has to expand. If we can integrate technology into agriculture, this will lead to the creation of jobs, “said the previous governor of the RBI.

Rajan had joined Rahul Gandhi during the Congress-led Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan. Soon after the images of Rahul Gandhi with Rajan came on social media, (BJP) took a swipe at the former RBI governor. They said his commentary on India’s economy should be discarded with “disdain” as it is “coloured and opportunistic”.
