Anurag Thakur, a 49-year-old BJP leader and Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, is leading handily in his parliamentary constituency of Hamirpur, which is his stronghold.
With 1,78,056 votes, he is in the lead and has a solid hold on the constituency, which has a very high literacy rate.
Thakur’s opponent is former lawmaker and Congress competitor Satpal Raizada.
The BJP’s stronghold is Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, where Prem Kumar Dhumal, the father of Thakur and a two-term chief minister, was three times elected as a member of parliament (MP).
With a vote share of 69%, Thakur won in 2019 with a record margin of around 4 lakh votes.
The 17 Assembly constituencies that make up the Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat have historically supported the BJP since Suresh Chandel was chosen as the MP in 1998.
He carried on till 2004.
Dhumal was elected as the Hamirpur MP in 2007 but resigned a few months later to become the Chief Minister.

Due to this, a bypoll was required, and Anurag Thakur has served as the MP since 2008. He won his first election when he was 34 years old.
It is noteworthy that J.P. Nadda, the National President of the BJP, who has served three terms as an Assembly representative for Bilaspur (Sadar), is also a member of the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency.
Representatives for the Nadaun and Haroli assembly seats, which are also included in the Hamirpur seat, are Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu and his deputy Mukesh Agnihotri.
Thakur expressed complete confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP-led NDA government will be established at the center for the third time in a row. He added that continuity and stability will guarantee that India advances steadily in the global arena.
People have chosen to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP-NDA.
Himachal has consistently produced results that are 100% in favor of the BJP, and this time is no exception, Thakur told the Hamirpur media.
