The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported an offshore earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 in Leyte province, central Philippines.
According to the institute, the quake occurred at 6:16 p.m. local time, and struck at a depth of 8 km, around 32 km southeast of Dulag, a coastal town.
The institute went on to say that the tectonic quake would trigger aftershocks and cause damage. The tremor was also felt in several regions of the province.
The archipelagic Philippines experiences significant seismic activities because of its location along the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’.
