Andre Russell in action for KKR in IPL 2024
Andre Russell showcased his prowess with a blistering unbeaten 25-ball 64, following Phil Salt’s solid fifty, as Kolkata Knight Riders bounced back from a sedate start to post a commanding 208 for 7 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL match on Saturday. Salt, who initially went unsold at the auction but later joined as a replacement for Jason Roy, notched up his third IPL fifty in just 38 balls before falling to Mayank Markande (3/39) while attempting to accelerate. The Englishman contributed 54 off 40 deliveries.
Russell unleashed his onslaught against Markande, smashing the SRH leg-spinner for three consecutive sixes in just five balls. Although Markande seemed to have got the better of him with a diving catch taken by Aiden Markram at long-on, replays revealed that the catch was grounded, granting Russell a reprieve when he was on 20.

The signs were ominous for SRH as Russell went on a rampage in Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s penultimate over, plundering him for two fours and two sixes, yielding 26 runs.

Rinku Singh, partnering Russell, contributed a brisk 15-ball 23 as the duo amassed 81 runs from just 33 balls, propelling KKR to score 85 runs in the last five overs.

Left-arm seamer T Natarajan made significant breakthroughs, dismissing both Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer. Alongside veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar, he conceded only 16 runs in four overs, stifling KKR in the powerplay.

Bhuvneshwar impressed with an excellent opening over, swinging the ball both ways to trouble Salt and Sunil Narine, conceding just three runs.
Ranked No. 2 in T20I cricket, Salt unleashed his attacking game against Marco Jansen, hammering the South African pacer for three consecutive sixes in the off-side corridor.

Despite a sudden mix-up leading to Narine’s dismissal, KKR continued their momentum. Captain Cummins introduced Natarajan, who swiftly removed Venkatesh and comeback skipper Shreyas in successive balls.
Markande and Cummins combined to further dent KKR’s batting lineup, with Nitish Rana departing after being deceived by a Markande googly.
However, Salt found support in debutant Ramandeep Singh, who formed an entertaining 54-run partnership. Ramandeep contributed a quickfire 35 off 17 balls, including three sixes, before falling to Cummins.
Their partnership set the stage for Russell and Rinku’s final assault on the SRH bowling attack.
