NITI Aayog: Poverty Decreasing Rapidly In India

Poverty Headcount Ratio India: There has been a huge decline in the poverty ratio in the country in the last 9 years. The poverty headcount ratio declined from 29.17 percent in 2013-14 (projected) to 11.28 percent in 2022-23 (projected). This information on poverty was just given by quoting NITI Aayog.

According to the discussion paper released today by NITI Aayog, if we look at multidimensional poverty in India since 2005-06, the number of people living below the poverty line is decreasing. During the last 9 years i.e. during the tenure of Modi government, 24.82 crore people are estimated to have escaped from multidimensional poverty.

According to NITI Aayog, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh recorded the largest decline in the number of MPI poor between 2013-14 and 2022-23. There has been a rapid decline in poverty in poor states – indicating a reduction in inequalities.

Target will be achieved before 2030

India is likely to achieve SDG target 1.2 (reduce multidimensional poverty by at least half) well before 2030.
