India’s rising chess talent, 18-year-old Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa, is set to receive significant support from the Adani Group. The conglomerate is committed to nurturing athletes striving for excellence and bringing honor to the nation.
Expressing pride in supporting Praggnanandhaa, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, lauded the young player’s remarkable progress in the game, deeming him an inspirational figure for India. Emphasizing the significance of representing the country and achieving top honors, Adani Group reiterated its dedicated support for athletes on their journey to success.
Praggnanandhaa, known for his ambition to elevate India’s global standing in chess, expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the Adani Group. His goal remains focused on earning respect for the country through his performance on the international stage.
The young chess sensation made headlines in 2023 by becoming the youngest player to reach a World Cup final, following in the footsteps of chess legend Vishwanathan Anand. In 2022, he gained recognition by defeating Magnus Carlsen multiple times, showcasing India’s prowess in the game. Notably, Praggnanandhaa, hailing from Chennai, holds a silver medal from the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023.
Commencing his chess journey at the age of 5, Praggnanandhaa became India’s youngest Grandmaster at 12 in 2018, marking his name among the world’s youngest GMs. Remarkably, his elder sister R. Vaishali also holds the Grandmaster title, making them the first brother-sister GM pair globally.
The Adani Group’s #GarvHai initiative has been pivotal in supporting 28 talented sportspersons across various sports, including wrestling, boxing, tennis, and archery. Notable beneficiaries include Commonwealth Games gold medalists Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Deepak Punia, and boxer Amit Panghal, who achieved silver medals in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and 2023 Asian Games.
