On Saturday, the United States warned North Korea that any nuclear strike against the nation or its allies is unacceptable and will result in the end of the Kim Jong Un regime.

According to a joint US-South Korean statement, the United States side reiterated that any nuclear attack by the DPRK against the ROK would be met with a swift, overwhelming, and decisive response.

The second meeting of the United States-Republic of Korea Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG) was held in Washington on Friday to discuss nuclear deterrence as part of the two nations’ agreement to share more information about contingency preparation in the event of confrontation with North Korea.

Pyongyang has built and tested several ballistic missiles capable of reaching targets in South Korea, Japan, and the United States mainland.

South Korea’s deputy national security adviser, Kim Tae-hyo, stated on Friday that North Korea may conduct a test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile this month, which was considered a nuclear threat regardless of its range since it can carry a nuclear warhead.

Next summer, the third NCG will meet in Korea.
