US Will Uphold Principles Regardless Of Country: Biden's Adviser Addresses India-Canada Row
The United States has engaged in high-level discussions with Indian officials after Canada alleged that Indian government agents were linked to the murder of a Khalistani terrorist in Canada. US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan emphasized that there would be no special treatment in this matter, reaffirming the importance of upholding principles regardless of the country involved. The US has been working to strengthen its relationship with India, as demonstrated by President Joe Biden’s hosting of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a state visit earlier this year.
When asked whether the US’s concern about the incident might disrupt diplomatic efforts, Sullivan stated that the US takes the issue seriously and will continue to address it, irrespective of the countries involved. He stressed that no country is exempt from accountability for such actions, and the US will collaborate closely with allies like Canada as they pursue legal and diplomatic processes.
Canada recently announced that it is actively investigating credible allegations connecting Indian government agents to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a Sikh temple in June. Sullivan emphasized that the US remains in constant communication with both Canada and India on this matter, rejecting claims of a divide between the US and Canada. He expressed strong concerns about the allegations and called for a thorough investigation and the prosecution of those responsible.
