US Urges Restraint As India-Pakistan Tensions Rise; Says Conflict Not America's Fight

US Vice President JD Vance has said that while the US supports efforts to reduce hostilities between India and Pakistan, the ongoing conflict is ultimately ‘none of our business’.

In an interview with Fox News, Vance emphasized that the US will not intervene militarily, stating, “What we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate a little bit, but we’re not going to get involved in the middle of war that’s fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it. You know, America can’t tell the Indians to lay down their arms. We can’t tell the Pakistanis to lay down their arms. And so, we’re going to continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels.”

Known for advocating reduced US involvement in foreign conflicts, Vance expressed concern but ruled out direct intervention.

“Our hope and our expectation is that this is not going to spiral into a broader regional war or, God forbid, a nuclear conflict,” Vance asserted. “Right now, we don’t think that’s going to happen.”

His comments followed Pakistan’s unsuccessful missile strikes targeting Indian military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and other areas.

India’s air defence systems reportedly intercepted and neutralised at least eight missiles launched by Pakistan.

Trump’s Appeal For Calm

Earlier, US President Donald Trump also appealed for calm, urging both sides to cease escalating actions.

“Oh it’s so terrible. My position is I get along with both. I know both very well and I want to see them work it out. I want to see them stop and hopefully they can stop now. They have gone tit for tat, so hopefully they can stop now. I know both, we get along with both the countries very well,” President Trump noted.

“Good relationships with both and I want to see it stop. And If I can do anything to help, I will be there,” Trump remarked in response to a question about tensions between India and Pakistan.

Trump’s remarks came after Indian forces launched air strikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan’s Punjab province on Wednesday.

The strikes, dubbed ‘Operation Sindoor’, were a response to the 22 April terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.

Following the air strikes, Pakistan’s military retaliated with artillery and mortar shelling along the Line of Control, targeting forward villages in Jammu and Kashmir.
