A Russian missile assault on the eastern Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk on Saturday killed at least 11 people, including five children.

Eight individuals were also injured as Russian soldiers launched S-300 missiles into the area. “The main blow was dealt to Pokrovsk and Rivne in the community of Myrnograd”, claimed Vadim Filashkin, the head of the Donetsk region, on Telegram.

He published photos of rescue workers searching through the wreckage of the attack, which damaged six residences.

Pokrovsk, which had a population of 60,000 before the war, had previously been hit by a terrible bombardment in August, which killed nine people and injured 82 more.

The town is around fifty kilometres (30 miles) from the battleground.
