Uganda has reported 49 new cases of mpox, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections in the country to 145. This update comes from the Ministry of Health, which announced the figures on Friday.
Notably, Kampala, the capital, recorded the highest number of new cases, with 27 reported over the last week. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported among the 19 affected districts, according to health authorities.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed its support for Uganda’s efforts to contain the outbreak of Mpox in Uganda. In a statement released in Kampala on Friday, the WHO indicated that it is collaborating with the Ministry of Health and other partners to enhance response efforts.
“WHO, with support from the Contingency Fund for Emergencies, is strengthening coordination, surveillance, laboratory capacity, case management, and community engagement in the affected areas,” the organization stated.
In August, the WHO declared mpox a public health emergency of international concern due to its potential for further global transmission.
In response, Uganda’s Ministry of Health, with the help of various partners, has intensified preventive measures. These efforts include enhanced surveillance, case management, health meetings, risk communication, community engagement, and public awareness campaigns aimed at curbing the spread of the disease.
