Thai Deputy PM Receives PM Narendra Modi Upon Arrival In Bangkok

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bangkok on Thursday, where he was welcomed by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Suriya Jungrungreangkit.

Expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming engagements at the BIMSTEC Leaders’ Summit, PM Modi highlighted the importance of strengthening regional cooperation.

He shared images from the airport, where he warmly greeted members of the Indian community.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Landed in Bangkok, Thailand. Looking forward to participating in the upcoming official engagements and strengthening the bonds of cooperation between India and Thailand.”

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted the significance of PM Modi’s visit. He further stated that the Indian leader would hold discussions with Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra alongside the BIMSTEC Summit.

“Special Maritime neighbours with shared civilizational bonds. PM @narendramodi lands in the vibrant cultural city of Bangkok on an Official Visit. Warmly received by the Deputy PM & Minister of Transport Mr Suriya Jungrungreangkit at the airport. Extensive discussions with PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra @ingshin & the 6th BIMSTEC Summit lie ahead,” Jaiswal posted on X.

Meanwhile, members of the Indian diaspora gathered at a hotel in Bangkok, chanting ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Jai Hind’ as they awaited Modi’s arrival.

The visit, however, comes at the invitation of Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

PM Modi, outlining his travel agenda on social media, further emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships with Thailand, Sri Lanka, and the broader BIMSTEC region.

Taking to X, Prime Minister Modi posted, “Over the next three days, I will be visiting Thailand and Sri Lanka to take part in various programmes aimed at boosting India’s cooperation with these nations and the BIMSTEC countries.”

The 6th BIMSTEC Summit, scheduled for Friday, will, however, serve as a key platform for regional collaboration. It aims to reinforce India’s engagement with its neighbors under the BIMSTEC.
