PM Modi Hails RSS’s Century Of Service, Says ‘Nation First’ Always Paramount

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to the 100-year journey of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), describing it as ‘unprecedented’ and ‘inspiring’, and highlighting its unwavering commitment to the principle of ‘nation first’.

Speaking on the 126th episode of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi noted that the organisation has played a pivotal role in fostering national pride and selfless service.

The Prime Minister emphasised that this year’s Vijayadashami holds special significance as it marks 100 years since Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar founded the RSS in 1925.

He recalled that Dr Hedgewar established the Sangh when India was under colonial rule and its self-respect and national identity were under threat.

Foundation Rooted in National Pride

Reflecting on the founding vision, PM Modi said that Hedgewar recognised the urgent need to revive India’s cultural confidence and unity.

“The world’s oldest civilisation was facing an identity crisis, and our people were suffering from an inferiority complex,” he remarked. The RSS, he said, emerged as a movement to restore India’s intellectual and spiritual independence alongside political freedom.

After Dr Hedgewar’s passing, Guruji MS Golwalkar carried forward the Sangh’s mission with the guiding principle: ‘Rashtraya Swaha, Idam Rashtraya Idam Na Mam’ — meaning ‘This is not mine, this belongs to the nation’.

PM Modi said this timeless message continues to inspire millions of volunteers to place national service above self-interest.

PM Modi praised the RSS for its ‘relentless and tireless’ service across India.

He highlighted the organisation’s active role in relief efforts during natural disasters and its continuous contributions to community building, education, and social welfare.

“The spirit of sacrifice, discipline, and service is the true strength of the Sangh,” he said, commending its volunteers for embodying the motto of ‘nation first’ in every action.

Concluding his address, PM Modi extended heartfelt greetings to all Swayamsevaks participating in this ‘great yagya’ of national service.

He underscored that the centenary of the RSS is not merely a milestone but a celebration of an enduring legacy of patriotism and dedication to India’s unity and progress.
