On Saturday, Australian police claimed they had received reports of multiple people being stabbed at a busy shopping centre in Sydney.

According to the authorities, six individuals, including the attacker, died in the incident.

The Police stated, “She confronted the offender who had moved by this stage to level five as she continued to walk quickly behind him to catch up with him. He turned to confront her and raised a knife. She discharged a firearm and that person is now deceased”.

“I’m advised that there are five victims who are now deceased as a result of the actions of this offender”, the police continued.

The incidents took place at the sprawling Westfield Bondi Junction mall complex, which was crowded with Saturday afternoon shoppers.

The mall has been closed down, and police have advised visitors to avoid the area.

As per the New South Wales Ambulance, police shot and killed one man. He is thought to be one of the attackers.

The motive was not immediately obvious.

Eyewitnesses reported chaos at the scene, with shoppers fleeing to safety and police attempting to secure the area.

Several people sought shelter at a supermarket, where they remained for about an hour.

The sound of police sirens and helicopters permeated the atmosphere.

Local media published security camera images of a man running around the shopping complex with a large knife and the injured people on the floor.
