Supriya Sule-Led Delegation In Ethiopia Conveys India’s United Stand Against Terrorism

An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) MP Supriya Sule visited Ethiopia from 30 May to 1 June 2025.

This visit forms part of India’s ongoing diplomatic outreach under ‘Operation Sindoor’, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack, aimed at reinforcing India’s ‘New Normal’ doctrine of zero tolerance against terrorism and promoting political unity on national security matters.

The delegation held fruitful discussions with key Ethiopian leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Adem Farah, who also serves as Deputy Chairperson of the Prosperity Party.

The Indian MPs conveyed India’s determined stance against terrorism in all forms, emphasising cross-border attacks as a serious threat.

Deputy PM Farah strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack and pledged Ethiopia’s commitment to collaborate with India in counter-terrorism. Both sides reiterated their shared zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.

Further discussions took place with the African Union Commission, where both parties explored enhanced cooperation to combat terrorism globally.

The African Union’s well-defined framework for identifying terrorist acts was highlighted as a foundation for focused joint efforts.

Parliamentary Cooperation To Promote Zero Tolerance

A key meeting with Tagesse Chafo, Speaker of the Ethiopian Parliament, centred on strengthening cooperation between lawmakers of both nations.

The Speaker expressed deep sympathy for India and underscored the urgency of coordinated action against terrorism in all its forms.

Indian MPs emphasised the seriousness of cross-border terrorism and highlighted ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a measured and proportionate response to the Pahalgam attack.

The Ethiopian representatives reaffirmed their own zero-tolerance approach and condemned the attacks against innocent civilians.

The delegation concluded its visit by engaging with the Indian community in Ethiopia, recognising their vital contribution in upholding India’s ethos of unity, pluralism, and tolerance.

The MPs commended the diaspora for their role in countering divisive forces and encouraged them to continue spreading India’s message of peace and solidarity.

The delegation comprised leaders from several parties, including BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Anurag Thakur, and V Muraleedharan; Congress’s Manish Tewari and Anand Sharma; Telugu Desam Party’s Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu; Aam Aadmi Party’s Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney; and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin.

Supriya Sule reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to combating cross-border terrorism, urging the diaspora to champion this cause globally.

Furthermore, she emphasised that terror and talks cannot coexist, sending a clear message of India’s resolve.

This visit highlights India’s determination to build international partnerships and a global consensus against terrorism, strengthening diplomatic ties while promoting peace and security.
