Indian Parliamentary Delegation Pays Tribute To Pahalgam Terror Victims In Algeria; Reinforces Anti-Terror Stand

In a solemn diplomatic gesture, an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda paid tribute to the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack at the Basilique Notre-Dame d’Afrique in Algiers, Algeria.

Candles were lit in memory of the victims, reaffirming India’s global campaign against terrorism under the banner of ‘#NeverForgetNeverForgive’ and ‘#OperationSindoor’.

Sharing visuals on social media platform X, the Indian Embassy in Algeria stated, “India stands united to combat terrorism.”

Delegation members observed a minute’s silence and laid wreaths in memory of the victims, underscoring the universal threat posed by terrorism and the need for collective global action.

Earlier in the day, the delegation, which includes MPs from BJP, AIMIM and other parties, held detailed discussions with Algerian think-tanks, senior foreign ministry officials, and Indian diaspora members.

These engagements emphasised the Indian government’s ‘zero tolerance’ stance on terrorism, particularly in the context of cross-border attacks emanating from Pakistan.

Tributes At Maqam Echahid & Historic Reflections

The delegation also visited the Maqam Echahid (Martyrs Memorial), a national monument honouring Algeria’s freedom fighters, as well as the National Museum of the Moudjahid.

“India and Algeria share deep bonds of history, struggle, and resilience,” Panda noted, connecting the legacy of resistance between the two nations.

MPs Nishikant Dubey, Phangnon Konyak, and Rekha Sharma shared the Embassy’s posts, amplifying India’s diplomatic message.

The symbolism of visiting Algeria’s national monuments highlighted a shared legacy of anti-colonial struggle and the importance of preserving global peace.

The visit began with a strategic briefing by India’s Ambassador to Algeria, Swati V Kulkarni, who provided insights into the growing India-Algeria partnership and mutual concerns over terrorism.

BJP MP Rekha Sharma noted the meeting’s importance in deepening bilateral cooperation and amplifying India’s global message post-‘Operation Sindoor’.

Senior Algerian foreign ministry officials formally welcomed the delegation, kicking off high-level engagements to build global consensus against terrorism.

The Algeria visit is part of a broader diplomatic mission across West Asia and North Africa.

Before arriving in Algeria, the delegation concluded visits to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain, reinforcing India’s ‘New Normal’ doctrine on terrorism with regional partners.

This outreach reinforces India’s global advocacy for decisive and collective counter-terrorism mechanisms, especially in the wake of the Pahalgam attack.

The visit to Algeria, culminating on June 2, highlights India’s proactive diplomacy in promoting peace, security, and international solidarity against terror.
