The billionaire and CEO of several businesses, Elon Musk, has frequently pleaded with both Russia and Ukraine to put an end to their hostilities and find a peaceful resolution. Through his Starlink satellite network, Musk has helped Ukraine by giving it access to the internet. It is said that the business tycoon actually prevented nuclear war between Russia and Ukraine.
Musk avoided nuclear war between Ukraine and Russia
However, Elon Musk’s biography, which will be published by Simon & Schuster on September 12th, has underlined how Musk avoided a nuclear conflict between Russia and Ukraine. According to the biography by Walter Isaacson, Musk secretly instructed his engineers to shut down SpaceX’s Starlink satellite communications network last year in close proximity to the Crimean coast in order to thwart a covert Ukrainian attack on the Russian naval fleet. The author stated as Ukrainian submarine drones strapped with explosives approached the Russian fleet, they “lost connectivity and washed ashore harmlessly”.

Ukraine begs to Musk
Ukrainian officials begged Musk to switch the satellites back on after his decision. Musk’s choice, though, was motivated by a grave concern that Russia would use nuclear weapons in retaliation for a Ukrainian invasion on Crimea. His fear of a “mini-Peral Harbor” in Crimea was unfounded.
Musk has emphasized that SpaceX did not deactivate anything, though. There was no activation of the Starlink zones. In order to drown the majority of the Russian fleet at anchor, he said, the US government had instructed Starlink to be activated all the way to Sevastopol. “If I had agreed to their request, then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation,” Elon Musk said.

Musk: “How am I in this war?”
According to Isaacson’s book, Musk was taken aback by the undersea drones’ design but refused to restore satellite service to Crimea because Ukraine “is now going too far and inviting strategic defeat.”
Musk told Isaacson, “How am I in this war?” “Starlink was not meant to be involved in wars. It was so people can watch Netflix and chill and get online for school and do good peaceful things, not drone strikes.”
