Strengthening India–Russia Partnership
During the conversation, both leaders reviewed areas of bilateral cooperation and agreed to further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.
They also decided to remain in close touch on global and regional issues.
On August 8, Putin had also briefed PM Modi about discussions with US Special Envoy Steven Witkoff in Moscow.
The Kremlin later confirmed that the two leaders exchanged views on trade, economy, and investment, while reaffirming their commitment to political and diplomatic solutions for the Ukraine conflict.
India officially welcomed the Putin–Trump Alaska Summit, calling their leadership in pursuing peace ‘highly commendable’.
“India welcomes the Summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is highly commendable. The way forward can only be through dialogue and diplomacy. The world wants to see an early end to the conflict in Ukraine,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
Looking ahead, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Moscow on August 21 during the 26th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the ministers will discuss pressing bilateral issues and coordinate on urgent international matters.
