At Georgetown University, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi discussed the party’s impact on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political vision. Gandhi stated that the Congress has “destroyed the idea of Modi,” though he clarified he holds no personal hatred toward the Prime Minister. “I don’t hate Mr. Modi. He has a point of view which I disagree with, but I don’t see him as an enemy. I have empathy and compassion for him,” Gandhi remarked.
He highlighted how Congress has evolved over decades, noting past shifts like bank nationalisation in the 1970s and economic liberalisation in the 1990s. According to Gandhi, this adaptability stems from Mahatma Gandhi’s foundational principles.
Reflecting on recent challenges, Gandhi shared that during the 2024 elections, Congress faced issues such as frozen bank accounts. Despite these obstacles, “we fought the elections with our bank accounts frozen,” he said. He believes the Modi government was psychologically unprepared for Congress’s resistance.
Gandhi also questioned the fairness of the recent elections, arguing that a fair election would not have favored the BJP as it did. He suggested that financial advantages and a controlled campaign environment tilted the scales.
Furthermore, While claiming the dismantle of ‘Idea of Modi’, Gandhi predicted difficulties for the BJP in future Assembly elections, citing the collapse of the coalition that supported Modi. He claimed that the BJP’s connection with big businesses has marginalized lower castes and other groups, signaling trouble ahead.
