Russia-Ukraine War
In Southern Russia, fight is going on after armed groups launched more border attacks from Ukraine while Moscow says it hit a terrorist group which tried to enter Russia’s Belgorod region.
On Sunday, Belgorod region’s governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that his side of border clashes erupted again. For the first, time he acknowledged that pro-Ukrainian forces had taken Russian prisoners of war during incursions.
He even mentioned that he was ready to meet them and revive talks to reterieve “our guys”. He further added, “A sabotage group came in’. There is combat in [the] Novaya Tavolzhanka [border village],” Gladkov said. “I hope they will all be destroyed.”
The pro-Kyiv Russian Volunteer Corps and the Freedom of Russia Legion called on the Belgorod governor to meet and retrieve captive soldiers. Gladov stated, “The only thing stopping me from negotiating with them is our guys that are in their hands, maybe they are already dead. Most likely they killed them, as hard as it is for me to say. But if they are alive, from 5-6pm – Shebekino checkpoint. I guarantee safety.”
Recently Ukraine shelled Russian settlements on the border resulting in fleeing thousand people to Belgorod. However, the Russian military later claimed of repelling a “sabotage group of Ukrainian terrorists” who tried to enter Russia’s Belgorod Region. It also added, “On June 4, units covering the state border of the western military district and border service of the Federal Security Service found an attempt by a sabotage group of Ukrainian terrorists trying to cross the river near the settlement of Novaya Tavolzhanka. The enemy was hit by artillery. The enemy scattered and retreated.”
