Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a red carpet as he landed in Paris on Thursday for a two-day visit during which he would conduct extensive meetings with President Emmanuel Macron and serve as the Guest of Honour at the French National Day celebrations.
PM Modi tweeted, “Landed in Paris. Looking forward to boosting India-France cooperation during this visit. My various programmes today include an interaction with the Indian community later in the evening”, through his official Twitter handle.
French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne met Modi at the airport in a special gesture. At the airport, he was greeted by a guard of honour and the national anthems of both countries were played.
Modi expressed optimism that his visit will bring a new push to the bilateral strategic partnership before departing. The expansion of bilateral defence ties is expected to be a major emphasis of Prime Minister Modi’s discussions with Macron.
“I look forward to meeting President Macron and holding wide-ranging discussions on taking forward this longstanding and time-tested partnership over the next 25 years”, PM Modi said in his parting statement.
“We also work together on regional and global issues”, he concluded.
