During his landmark visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended an invitation to President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit India, a gesture that Zelensky has warmly accepted.
In their discussions, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. He also expressed India’s willingness to contribute in “all possible ways” to help restore peace in the region.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed the invitation during a press briefing following the talks. “Our Prime Minister’s visit to Ukraine is significant as it’s the first of its kind since Ukraine gained independence over 30 years ago,” Jaishankar stated. “It is customary for such visits to include an invitation, which the Prime Minister did extend. We look forward to President Zelensky visiting India at his convenience.”

Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine
PM Modi’s visit to Kyiv, which took place under tight security, marked a historic moment as the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine. The joint statement issued after the talks reiterated the invitation for President Zelensky to visit India.
In response, President Zelensky expressed his enthusiasm about the visit. “I would be happy to visit India at a mutually convenient time,” he said. “Starting a strategic partnership and dialogue means we should continue without long pauses, and meeting again would be beneficial.”
Zelensky also voiced his hope for India to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. “I have read a lot about your big and great country. It is very interesting to me. I need your support, and I would be happy to visit India as soon as your government and Prime Minister are ready to receive me,” he added.
However, the Ukrainian President noted that the timing of his visit would depend on the evolving situation in his war-torn country.
