PM Modi Welcomes World Leaders To G20 Summit With “Bharat Welcomes You”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted international leaders at the G20 Summit in Delhi today, hinting at the proposed name change from India to Bharat.

“Bharat welcomes you”, Prime Minister Modi stated during the G20 Summit’s opening comments.

‘Bharat’ was also used in a G20 brochure titled ‘Bharat, The Mother Of Democracy’ for foreign delegations. ‘Bharat’ is the country’s official name. It is mentioned in the Constitution as well as the 1946-48 debates, according to the brochure.

The United Nations stated that it will change India’s name to Bharat in UN records once New Delhi has completed all the necessary processes.

“When India completes the formalities to change the name, they will inform us, and we will change the name at the UN (records)”, said Stephane Dujarric, chief spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General.

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Modi stated that the Ukraine war has exacerbated the global trust gap and urged the entire world to turn it into faith in one another.

“This is a time when age-old challenges are calling for new solutions from us. And therefore, with a human-centric approach, we have to move forward to fulfill our responsibilities”, Prime Minister Modi remarked.

Prime Minister Modi added, “After COVID-19, there is a big crisis of trust deficit in the world. The war has deepened this trust deficit. When we can defeat COVID we can also achieve victory over this trust deficit crisis”.
