Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the G7 Summit’s outreach session on energy security in Kananaskis, Canada, on Tuesday.
Addressing global leaders, he called for affordable, accessible, and sustainable energy solutions, while highlighting India’s initiatives in renewable energy and responsible technology use.
India’s global energy vision
During his address, PM Modi elaborated on India’s leadership in global initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
These, he noted, are helping chart a sustainable energy future while supporting disaster resilience and green infrastructure.
Prime Minister Modi emphasised that Artificial Intelligence (AI), though transformative, consumes significant energy and must therefore be powered through sustainable means.
“If there is any way to sustainably fulfil the energy requirements of a technology-driven society, it is through renewable energy,” he said, affirming India’s prioritisation of clean and reliable energy.
Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to democratising technology and declared that no country from the Global South would be left behind.
He cited India’s achievements in building a robust Digital Public Infrastructure that has empowered citizens and boosted the economy.
Highlighting concerns around AI misuse, PM Modi called for watermarking or clear labelling of AI-generated content to counter deepfakes.
He also emphasised the need for global governance frameworks to address AI-related challenges and ensure its ethical use.
PM Modi reaffirmed India’s environmental commitments, reminding the gathering that India fulfilled its Paris Agreement targets ahead of schedule and aims to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2070.
Today, nearly 50% of India’s installed power capacity comes from renewable sources.
PM Modi emphasised that while nations competed for energy in the 20th century, they must now cooperate on technology in the 21st century.
PM Modi stressed inclusive development based on availability, affordability, accessibility, and acceptability.
Global South & terrorism concerns
PM Modi voiced concern for the Global South, which he said suffers most during crises involving food, fuel, and finance.
He pledged India’s continued role in voicing its priorities at international forums.
Addressing terrorism, he strongly condemned the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, calling it an attack on India’s soul and on humanity.
Prime Minister Modi warned that any country supporting terrorism must face consequences, and he urged the global community to unite in the fight against terror.
PM Modi’s participation in the G7 outreach session reinforced India’s image as a responsible global player committed to energy security, equitable technology access, and international peace.
His remarks resonated with a growing global consensus on sustainability and inclusive governance in a rapidly evolving world.
