PM Narendra Modi engaged in a significant meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday during the ASEAN-India Summit in Laos.
This encounter, held on the summit’s sidelines, underscored the strong diplomatic ties between India and the United States.
During their discussion, PM Modi expressed his condolences for the lives lost due to Hurricane Milton in the United States.
The leaders also explored avenues for bolstering bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on various regional and global issues.
This meeting served to reaffirm the commitment of both nations to tackle pressing challenges collaboratively, emphasizing their enduring partnership on the international stage.
Additionally, PM Modi held fruitful bilateral talks with leaders from Japan and New Zealand on Thursday, furthering India’s diplomatic outreach during the summit.
He congratulated Japan’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, wishing him success in his new role and reiterating India’s dedication to fostering strong ties with Japan, a key strategic ally.
In his first meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, PM Modi welcomed New Zealand’s commitment to join the International Solar Alliance.
The two leaders discussed mutual cooperation and Luxon accepted an invitation to visit India at a time that suits both parties.
PM Modi Calls 21st Century ‘Asian Century’ At ASEAN Summit
Addressing the ASEAN summit earlier, PM Modi proclaimed the 21st century as the ‘Asian century’, emphasizing the importance of India and ASEAN countries working together amidst global conflicts and tensions.
The Prime Minister further remarked, “Today, when there is a situation of conflict and tension in many parts of the world, the friendship, coordination, dialogue and cooperation between India and ASEAN remains very important.”
During the summit, PM Modi unveiled a comprehensive 10-point plan aimed at enhancing connectivity and resilience within the ASEAN-India framework.
This initiative aligns with Laos’ theme as the 2024 ASEAN Chair and celebrates a decade of India’s ‘Act East’ policy.
The plan includes strategies to bolster physical, digital, cultural, and spiritual connectivity, aiming to achieve greater resilience in cyber, disaster management, supply chains, health, and climate.
As the summit progresses, the emphasis on strengthening partnerships among Asian nations highlights India’s commitment to playing a pivotal role in regional stability and growth.
