Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg on Sunday, reaffirming the rapid expansion of bilateral cooperation between India and the Netherlands.
Their discussions focused on key sectors such as energy, technology, water management and innovation, areas in which both nations have seen significant progress in recent years.
PM Modi noted that India and the Netherlands intend to intensify collaboration further, particularly in boosting trade and investment ties.
In a post on X, he highlighted the strong momentum in the partnership and emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation in the years ahead.

Prime Minister Schoof echoed the sentiment, stating that the Netherlands and India work closely across trade, security and innovation.
He reaffirmed that the Netherlands remains the fourth-largest investor in India, demonstrating strong economic confidence between the two nations.
Schoof added that the two leaders explored the potential for expanded investments under the Strategic Partnership and discussed his participation in the upcoming India-AI Impact Summit in New Delhi next year. He stressed that long-term cooperation between the two countries is vital in an era of rapid global change.
PM Modi Pushes for Human-Centric Technology at G20
Earlier in the day, PM Modi addressed the third session of the G20 Summit titled ‘A Fair and Just Future for All – Critical Minerals; Decent Work; Artificial Intelligence’.
He called for a fundamental shift in how emerging technologies are developed and deployed, arguing that they must be ‘human-centric’ rather than driven solely by financial or national interests.
He emphasised the need for open-source models and global cooperation to ensure that critical technologies benefit all.
PM Modi also expressed hope that the G20 would develop a global framework for talent mobility in the coming years, essential for fostering innovation in an AI-driven era.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi met Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and discussed expanding bilateral cooperation shaped by historical ties and cultural bonds.
He also held discussions with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on strengthening relations in commerce, investment, technology, critical minerals and skills development.
PM Modi later attended the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Leaders’ Meeting, where he called for stronger coordination against terrorism and proposed institutionalising the IBSA National Security Advisor–level dialogue to reinforce security cooperation.
