The Government of India has strongly refuted claims made in a letter circulating on various social media platforms, primarily shared through several Pakistan-based propaganda accounts.
The letter, falsely attributed to Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, suggested that the Indian Air Force (IAF) was preparing to discontinue the use of its indigenously developed Tejas fighter jets.
The misinformation quickly gained traction online, prompting concerns over the spread of fabricated defence-related narratives aimed at misleading the public.
In a prompt response, PIB Fact Check confirmed that the letter being circulated is entirely fake. The government’s fact-checking unit emphasised that the IAF has made no such statement regarding the abandonment of the Tejas aircraft, a key asset in India’s defence capability and a symbol of indigenous aerospace achievement.
Officials reiterated that the Indian Air Force remains committed to strengthening its fleet, and the Tejas programme continues to be an integral part of this strategic vision.
Public Urged to Verify Information
The government has urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified information, particularly on sensitive subjects such as national security and defence.
Authorities advised the public to rely solely on official channels of the Government of India and the IAF for accurate updates.
The incident highlights the growing challenge of misinformation campaigns designed to create confusion and undermine public trust.
Officials stressed the need for vigilance, encouraging users to verify content before circulating it further.
The swift clarification from PIB Fact Check serves as a reminder of the importance of fact-based communication, especially at a time when misleading narratives can spread rapidly across digital platforms.
