On Friday, North Korea tested a cruise missile warhead and launched a new anti-aircraft missile in the West Sea of Korea.

According to the DPRK Missile Administration, North Korea performed a power test of a super-large warhead designed for the ‘Hwasal-1 Ra-3’ strategic cruise missile on Friday afternoon, as well as a test launch of ‘Pyoljji-1-2’ new-type anti-aircraft missile.

Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, or DPRK, is the North’s official name.

North Korea’s strategic cruise missile is thought to be built to carry a nuclear payload.

“Both tests were part of the regular activities of the administration and its affiliated defence science institutes for the rapid development of technologies in various aspects such as tactical and technical performance and operation of new-type weapon systems”, KCNA reported, adding that they had nothing to do with the regional situation.

South Korea, Japan, and the United States, who frequently report big missile launches detected from North Korea, made no mention of a flight.
