China said on Tuesday that it had received no official notice from North Korea was opening its borders to visitors.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV stated Monday that North Korea would allow foreign nationals to enter after being isolated for more than three years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Beijing’s Foreign minister stated that it had not heard from Pyongyang about such a move.
In a regular press conference, Wang Wenbin, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, stated, “At present, the Chinese side has not received notification through diplomatic channels from the North Korean side on… opening its border”.
The move was announced by North Korean authorities, according to CCTV broadcast, but no other details were provided.
North Korea has yet to publically declare the reopening of its borders to foreigners.
It has, however, shown hints of reopening this month, with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visiting Russia and North Korean athletes visiting China for the Asian Games.
