Nikki Haley questioned mental capacity of Donald Trump to lead the country once more on Saturday, pointing out that during a campaign speech, he appeared to keep confusing her with former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.
Trump’s erroneous claim
Haley brought up Trump’s erroneous claim that she was in charge of Capitol security on January 6, 2021, when a crowd of Trump supporters stormed the building in an attempt to prevent the certification of his loss to Democrat Joe Biden, during her campaign stop in Keene, New Hampshire.
Trump first said that Haley turned down security offered by his administration on January 6 and then again mentioned Haley, adding, “They destroyed all of the information, all of the evidence, everything, deleted and destroyed all of it.”
Trump confuses Haley with Pelosi
The 77-year-old president has charged Pelosi of refusing security that his administration supplied, but there is no proof to back up that accusation from a special House committee that was established to look into the attack. “They’re saying he got confused, that he was talking about something else, he’s talking about Nancy Pelosi,” Haley said on Saturday.
“He mentioned me multiple times in that scenario. The concern I have is — I’m not saying anything derogatory — but when you’re dealing with the pressures of the presidency, we can’t have someone else that we question whether they’re mentally fit to do this,” Haley said. “We can’t.”

The distinction between Nikki and Nancy
Haley’s campaign manager Betsy Ankney drew reference to Haley’s comments when she remarked, “Trump made a pretty apparent gaffe last night,” during a forum on Saturday in Manchester.
“It’s a distinction without a difference. It’s Nikki and Nancy,” Trump campaign senior adviser Chris LaCivita said to reporters Saturday night. “What’s the difference?” During his Manchester rally on Saturday night, Trump claimed to have “aced” a cognitive test.
“I’ll let you know when I go bad. I really think I’ll be able to tell you,” he added. “I feel my mind is stronger now than it was 25 years ago. Is that possible?”
