Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, briefing him on the Israel Iran conflict and the launch of “Operation Rising Lion” – a major military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

“Received a phone call from PM Netanyahu of Israel. He briefed me on the evolving situation. I shared India’s concerns and emphasised the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region,” PM Modi posted on X.

Netanyahu’s office said he also spoke with other world leaders, including the German Chancellor, French President, and is scheduled to talk to US, Russian, and British leaders.

Operation targets Iranian nuclear facility

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that Israeli fighter jets, guided by intelligence, struck Iran’s largest uranium enrichment site in Natanz overnight. The site includes underground enrichment halls, centrifuges, and infrastructure vital to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

According to the IDF, these strikes aimed to damage Iran’s capacity to develop nuclear weapons. The military stated, “We will continue to operate to prevent the Iranian Regime from acquiring nuclear weapons.”

Netanyahu declared that Operation Rising Lion would continue “for as many days as it takes” to remove the threat posed by Iran’s nuclear programme.

India calls for de-escalation

India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed “deep concern” over the Israel Iran escalation and confirmed it is “closely monitoring” developments, including attacks on nuclear facilities.

India urged both nations to avoid escalation and use diplomatic channels to resolve their issues. The MEA added that India’s missions in both countries are in contact with Indian citizens, urging them to stay safe and follow local advisories.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Foreign Ministry, under Minister Gideon Sa’ar, has activated emergency protocols, including a global diplomatic campaign to garner international support for the military operation.
