Louvre Museum
Visitors were evacuated from Paris’s Louvre museum on Saturday, which was shuttered for security reasons as France is on high alert following an incident in the northeastern town of Arras.
The country went on high alert after a man stabbed a teacher to death and seriously injured three others at a school on Friday.
The Louvre, the world’s largest museum, said it had received a written message stating that there was a risk to the museum and its visitors.
The spokesperson went on to say, “We have decided in the current national context of an emergency attack alert to evacuate and close it for the day, while we carry out the necessary checks”.
The suspected attacker, Mohammed Moguchkov, was apprehended by police in Arras after yelling the Arabic phrase “Allahu akbar!”
Authorities have suggested a possible link to the ongoing violence in the Middle East, with President Emmanuel Macron condemning an act of Islamist terror.
Visitors who purchased a day tickets through the Louvre were assured that they would receive a refund.
