On Saturday, the Kremlin said President Vladimir Putin will address the public soon, as Russia faces a rebellion by the Wagner mercenary group, which has promised to depose Moscow’s military leadership.

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman said, “Putin will make an address soon”.

The Wagner Group (officially known as PMC Wagner), is a private military organization founded and funded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a 61-year-old renowned as ‘Putin’s chef’ for catering state occasions through his catering business.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner mercenary group, stated on Saturday that he was inside the army headquarters in Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia and that his soldiers controlled the city’s military sites.

Prigozhin had previously said his soldiers had crossed into Russia from the Ukrainian front, intending to destabilize Russia’s military leadership, saying he and thousands of his fighters were “ready to die”.

Russia’s military headquarters at Rostov-on-Don serve as a vital logistical hub for the country’s offensive in Ukraine.
