Joe Biden calls Chinese Prez Xi Jinping ‘dictator’ as 4-hour summit ends

Chinese President Xi Jinping was called a “dictator” by US President Joe Biden on Wednesday. When Biden was asked if he still thought of Xi as a “dictator,” he made this comment at the end of his meeting with Xi.

“Well, look, he is,” Biden said.

“He is a dictator in the sense that he is a guy who runs a country that is communist,” Biden said, adding that the Chinese government “is totally different than ours.”

Presidents Biden and Xi agreed to work toward ensuring that differences between the two countries stay manageable and relations do not derail as the US-China Summit came to an end in California.

A senior administration official described the talks as transparent, honest, and open. News agency PTI stated that Biden was able to address Xi directly with his opinions and worries, to which Xi is believed to have replied with a counterargument.

The two leaders had the opportunity to talk about a wide range of topics during their discussion, including their bilateral ties, important regional and international issues like Iran, the Middle East, Ukraine, Taiwan, and the Indo-Pacific, as well as economic concerns, drugs, artificial intelligence, and climate change.

According to a senior administration official, China is committed to take action against businesses that trade illegal drugs in US.

The Pacific Commander is in operational contact with his counterparts in China, he said, and the two leaders also decided to resume military-to-military level discussions, with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and his Chinese counterpart leading the charge.
