External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will co-chair the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) in Moscow today. The session forms a central part of his three-day official visit to Russia from August 19 to 21.
The commission session aims to deepen bilateral ties and further consolidate the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership, a relationship described by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as ‘longstanding and time-tested’.
During his stay, Jaishankar will also address the India-Russia Business Forum, where both sides will explore ways to boost trade and investment.
Jaishankar’s visit follows an invitation from Denis Manturov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, highlighting the strategic significance of the engagement.
High-Level Diplomatic Engagements
In addition to the commission session, Jaishankar will hold bilateral talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, marking a continuation of regular high-level exchanges between the two nations.
The two leaders had previously met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ meeting on July 15 and during the recent BRICS Summit.
Earlier this year, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also visited Moscow for Foreign Office Consultations with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, reflecting the consistent diplomatic momentum between New Delhi and Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation, coinciding with Jaishankar’s current visit. The upcoming interactions are likely to further enhance cooperation across strategic, economic, and technological domains.
The IRIGC-TEC session will address multiple sectors, including trade, economic collaboration, scientific research, technological partnerships, and cultural exchanges.
Both countries aim to identify new opportunities for cooperation, strengthen existing mechanisms, and ensure continued progress in their multifaceted partnership.
