Israel has targeted and destroyed a crucial water project on the outskirts of Shebaa, southeastern Lebanon, local authorities report.
On Saturday, an Israeli warplane fired an air-to-ground missile at the main exit of the ‘Al-Maghara’ spring water project. This facility provides drinking water to numerous villages in Al-Arqoub, Hasbaya, and Marjeyoun, according to sources from the Shebaa Municipality who spoke to Xinhua news agency.
The attack caused an explosion that breached the project’s main exit, resulting in water spilling outside the supply networks serving the local communities.
In response, the South Lebanon Water Establishment (SLWE), responsible for the project, stated that the attack severely damaged the facilities. They indicated that the damage has disrupted operations, rendering the project inoperable.

The SLWE is urgently coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of maintenance teams. They aim to assess the damage and prepare for repairs.
In a joint statement, the municipalities of Al-Arqoub and Hasbaya called on government agencies, international organizations, and UNIFIL forces to act quickly. They urged for swift action to repair the water project, which serves over 2,000 families.
On the same day, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced air attacks targeting alleged Hezbollah storage facilities and an intelligence command center in the Dahieh suburb of Beirut.
This attack is part of a broader military campaign, dubbed “Arrows of the North,” which the Israeli army has been conducting since September 23. The campaign represents a significant escalation in tensions with Hezbollah, including a limited ground operation across the border.
