Following the Maldivian government’s declaration on Sunday that it will modify its laws to ban Israeli nationals from entering the country, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended that Israeli individuals who are currently in the Maldives consider leaving.
The ministry reported, “If Israelis who are currently in the Maldives encounter trouble, it will be difficult for us to assist them”.
It also advised Israeli nationals to avoid traveling to the Muslim-majority island nation, even if they had a second passport from another country.
The immigration ban on Israelis was imposed during a Maldivian cabinet meeting earlier on Sunday in response to requests from residents, who cited Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip.
According to the reports, Maldives welcomes over a million tourists each year, with an estimated 15,000 from Israel.
