The judiciary stated that Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld a death sentence against a man convicted of killing a revolutionary guards officer amid nationwide protests last year.
Officer Ali Nazari was slain in October 2022 during widespread protests in Iran in response to the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police detention the previous month.
In June, a Tehran court sentenced him to death, stating that it was in accordance with the retribution law in effect in Iran.
The Supreme Court affirmed the judgment late Monday without naming the accused man.
Amini, an Iranian Kurd, died after being arrested for allegedly violating the Islamic Republic’s severe dress code for women.
Hundreds of people were killed in last year’s protests, including dozens of security officers, and thousands more were detained in what officials called ‘foreign-instigated riots’.
Seven persons were executed after being found guilty of murder or other acts of violence against security force personnel during the protests.
