Iran And Cuba Pledge To Work Together To Confront US Aggressive Imperial Policy

The presidents of Iran and Cuba pledged Thursday to stand together against the United States’ aggressive imperial policy, which imposes sanctions on both nations.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who is hosting his counterpart Ebrahim Raisi in Havana, stated that both countries have had to face heroically, with tenacious resistance, the sanctions, the pressures, the threats, blockades, and the indifference of US imperialism and its allies.

In addition to sanctions, the US puts Cuba and Iran on its list of state supporters of terrorism.

The men presided over the signing of memorandums of understanding on cooperation in sectors such as customs, telecommunications, and justice.

Raisi had addressed a business meeting earlier in the day, where he stated that Iran would collaborate with communist Cuba in science and technology, particularly on hydroelectric and thermoelectric plants, and mining.

The Iranian president’s official visit to Cuba concluded a tour of friendly countries that includes US-sanctioned Nicaragua and Venezuela, which he described as common enemies.

All are Russia’s partners in the conflict in Ukraine.

In Venezuela, Raisi and Nicolas Maduro announced the signing of 25 agreements in the field ranging from education and health to mining.

Deepening trade and exchange was also on the agenda in Nicaragua, whose President Daniel Ortega announced the signing of a basic memorandum to boost economic, commercial, and scientific-technical collaboration.

Ortega has stated that Tehran has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and in February he questioned Western powers’ moral authority to prohibit Iran from possessing nuclear weapons.
