Indian Delegation Thanks Congo For Strong Support Against Cross-Border Terrorism

In a significant diplomatic engagement, an Indian parliamentary delegation led by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Eknath Shinde concluded its visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), securing firm support from Congolese leaders for India’s stance against cross-border terrorism.

This visit comes in the wake of the horrific 22 April Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 unarmed Indian tourists were brutally killed.

During high-level meetings with key members of Congo’s National Assembly, the delegation strongly advocated for international solidarity in the fight against terrorism, stressing the shared responsibility of the global community to combat such threats.

Strong Condemnation Of The Pahalgam Attack

The Indian MPs held detailed discussions with:

  • Berthold Ulungu (President of the Committee of Foreign Affairs),
  • Christophe Bowulu (Deputy President),
  • Jethro Muyombi Tshimbu (President of the Sub-Commission on Foreign Affairs), and
  • Igwabi Mushengezi Pauline (Committee Member)

During the meetings, the delegation presented a comprehensive account of India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, referencing the swift and targeted ‘Operation Sindoor’ aimed at neutralising terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In a strong show of solidarity, Berthold Ulungu condemned the Pahalgam attack and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

The Congolese parliamentarians observed a moment of silence to honour the victims, marking a poignant and respectful gesture.

Shrikant Shinde expressed deep gratitude for Congo’s unequivocal support.

“The solidarity shown by Congo and its leaders strengthens global understanding of India’s new normal in dealing with terrorism,” he said.

The delegation also engaged with the local press in Kinshasa, briefing journalists on the broader context of ‘Operation Sindoor’, India’s evolving national security strategy, and the imperative for international backing in its fight against state-sponsored terror.

This visit to DR Congo forms part of India’s diplomatic efforts to mobilise support from the Global South and beyond in highlighting the dangers posed by terror networks operating from across its borders.

The emphasis remains on building a united global front against terrorism, particularly that supported by elements in Pakistan.

Following the successful conclusion of its visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Indian delegation will now travel to Sierra Leone to continue its anti-terror diplomatic mission across Africa.
