An Indian multi-party parliamentary delegation led by Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) MP Supriya Sule arrived in Cairo for a high-level two-day visit.
The delegation met Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and welcomed Egypt’s strong condemnation of terrorism, especially in the wake of the recent Pahalgam attack in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Indian Embassy in Egypt stated that the meeting highlighted India’s firm resolve to fight terrorism and foster deeper collaboration with strategic partners like Egypt.
The delegation- comprising MPs Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, V Muraleedharan, and former Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin- also engaged with Egypt’s top political leadership, the Arab League, and members of civil society.
At a significant roundtable led by former Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, the Indian delegation interacted with prominent intellectuals and opinion-makers.
The dialogue reaffirmed shared values on global peace, regional cooperation, and the necessity of a united global stand against terrorism.
On Tuesday morning, the delegation paid homage at the Heliopolis War Memorial in Cairo, honouring the sacrifice of Indian soldiers during World Wars I and II.
The visit underscored the historical bonds between India and Egypt and the enduring legacy of shared sacrifices.
Members of the delegation signed the visitors’ book at the site, which includes the Heliopolis (Port Tewfik) Memorial and the Heliopolis (Aden) Memorial.
Later, the delegation met with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
Discussions focused on political and cultural cooperation and common security challenges, including terrorism.
Both parties stressed the urgency of sustained multilateral action to counter terror networks.
During the visit, delegation members were also interviewed by major Egyptian media outlets, presenting India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism and its diplomatic response post-Pahalgam attack under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Supriya Sule emphasised the importance of such parliamentary diplomacy in rallying international consensus against terrorism.
The visit concludes India’s outreach to key regions, including Qatar, Ethiopia, and South Africa, aiming to strengthen global partnerships and ensure greater accountability for state-sponsored terrorism.
