Imran Khan Failed To Present Proof Of Assassination Claim To Joint Investigation Team

Imran Khan, the former prime minister, has conceded, according to Pakistan’s interior minister Rana Sanaullah,  that he lacks evidence to support the assassination conspiracy claims he has made against Shehbaz Sharif, senior government officials, and the army chief.

Khan was criticised by Sanaullah for making unfounded claims that the prime minister, interior minister, and army chief wanted to assassinate him. Khan claimed that when pressed for proof, he was unable to provide any.

Khan, 70, has recently asserted that a plot to have him killed has been hatching among a few members of the ruling elite.

In November of last year, when his party’s “Haqeeqi Azadi” march arrived in Wazirabad in the Punjab province, Khan survived an attempt on his life. Khan underwent surgery to have bullet fragments from his thigh and shin removed after suffering multiple bullet wounds to his leg.

Khan publicly stated in an interview from April that the Prime Minister Sharif, Interior Minister Sanaullah, and two other establishment figures would be held accountable if anything happened to him.

Khan, who is involved in a number of legal matters, has also asked to be excused from appearing in court because assassination plotters might take advantage of the situation.

Khan attended a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) investigation session on Monday regarding his charges against senior military officers, and he was shown all the tapes in which he made the claims against the top Army and government officials.

According to the report, Khan acknowledged in a written statement before the JIT that neither ISI DGC Maj Gen Faisal Naseer had explicitly threatened him nor did he have any proof to back up his claims.

“JIT showed a video to the PTI chief, and he confessed that it was his own voice. During the investigation, he proved himself to be a liar and confessed that all his statements were baseless,” Sanaullah said.

“When the PTI chief was shown the FIR against him by the JIT, he was unable to provide any evidence to support the allegations he hurled in the video clips,” he said.

The JIT questioned him about why he had used the DG ISI’s name in his films. They also inquired as to whether he had ever met “Dirty Harry,” a top military official.

After Khan attended the JIT’s proceedings on June 12 in Islamabad, the PTI denounced what it dubbed the “leakage” of the proceedings to media outlets. The party demanded a probe to find and prosecute those responsible for the attack on Imran Khan.

“We call upon media to refrain from transmitting, publishing and airing of the content released through dubious and unverified sources which lack veracity and legal value and aimed primarily to contaminate public opinion, mislead the nation and impact the case adversely at the stage of the investigation,” the PTI statement said.

Khan, a former cricketer who entered politics, was removed from office in April 2017 after losing a vote of no confidence in him. Khan claimed that the vote was a part of a US-led plot to remove him from office because of his independent foreign policy decisions regarding Russia, China, and Afghanistan.
