On Friday, military spokesman Yahya Sarea stated that Yemen’s Houthis will target ships bound for Israeli ports in any place that is within their range.
“We will target any ships heading to Israeli ports in the Mediterranean Sea in any area we are able to reach”, Yahya Sarea noted.
Since November, the Iran-aligned Houthis have launched repeated drone and missile strikes on ships in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab strait, and the Gulf of Aden to show their support for the Palestinians in the Gaza war.
This has pushed merchants to re-route cargo to lengthier and more expensive voyages around southern Africa, fueling concerns that the Israel-Hamas war may expand and destabilize the Middle East.
