Palestinian group Hamas stated on Wednesday that Iran’s weekend attack on Israel was a legitimate and deserved retaliation to a strike on the Islamic Republic’s consulate in Syria.
“It was a legitimate and deserved response to the Zionist entity’s… targeting of the Iranian consulate building in Damascus on April 1”, Hamas stated in its first reaction to the Iranian aerial strike.
“The response from the Islamic Republic of Iran confirms that the time when the Zionist entity (Israeli) could act as it wanted without accountability or punishment has ended”, the statement reads.
Western nations condemned Iran’s reprisal as destabilizing the region.
Iran claims to have responded in self-defence after the Damascus strike destroyed its embassy’s consular annex and killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including two generals.
