Global Community Joins Indian Diaspora at Missions Worldwide to Celebrate 75th Republic Day

On the occasion of India’s 75th Republic Day, the Indian diaspora, adorned in vibrant traditional attire, joined in celebrations at the country’s missions across the globe. Ambassadors at various missions highlighted India’s progress as it embarked on the Amrit Kaal, aiming to transform Bharat into a developed nation by 2047. Amrit Kaal signifies the period from India’s 75th Independence Day to its 100th.

Indian envoys worldwide unfurled the national tricolour and conveyed President Droupadi Murmu’s Republic Day message. Participating countries included Russia, Italy, Germany, Singapore, Nigeria, Ukraine, Maldives, Israel, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, China, and Bangladesh, among others.

The Indian diaspora, attired in vibrant traditional dresses, actively engaged in cultural programs and special events to commemorate the occasion. In Egypt, Ambassador Ajit Gupte hosted a reception dinner attended by prominent personalities, including Egypt’s Minister of Communications & IT.

Notable celebrations took place in China, where despite cold weather, a substantial turnout showcased reverent patriotism. In Ukraine, the Indian Ambassador extended wishes for peace, prosperity, and well-being to both Indian and Ukrainian citizens.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Arindam Bagchi, unfurled the national flag, paid tribute to Babasaheb Ambedkar, and addressed the Indian community and friends of India. In Nigeria, the Consulate General reported over 500 members of the Indian diaspora participating in celebrations, featuring patriotic songs performed by schoolchildren.

Indian missions across Germany echoed the spirit of unity and development, as reflected in the official X handle’s post from Hamburg. Similar vibrant cultural celebrations unfolded in Lebanon, Bhutan, and Moscow, where artists showcased patriotic songs and traditional dances.

In Bhutan, the ceremony included performances by Indian and Bhutanese artists, including a Manipuri Dance troupe. In Colombo, Sri Lanka, patriotic tunes by the Sri Lanka Navy band and folk dances, including Garba, Kummi, Bhangra, and Southali, added to the festive atmosphere.

The Italian mission highlighted the diverse participation of the Indian diaspora, magnifying the joyous festivities. Meanwhile, in New Zealand, a Rajasthani cultural troupe mesmerized the audience with Bhavai and Kalbelia traditional folk dances.

In Nepal, Ambassador Naveen Srivastava honoured soldiers by disbursing dues and blankets to widows and next of kin. The celebrations also included gifting books to various institutions. In Dhaka, Bangladesh, a Republic Day reception hosted by the High Commission of India saw a significant turnout of dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.
