German Cops Search The Streets Of Berlin For A Lioness

Police have ordered the public to stay home on Berlin’s southwestern outskirts while they search for a wild animal thought to be an escaped lioness.

According to a police spokesperson in Brandenburg, the sparsely populated state bordering the German capital, a police operation began overnight with two helicopters deployed and was expanded in the early hours of Thursday as a hundred officers sought the animal.

“We are currently working on the assumption that the animal is a lioness”, the spokesperson told to media.

The present search area includes the Brandenburg municipalities of Kleinmachnow and Stahnsdorf.

Berlin police had earlier stated that the area on high alert includes the capital’s southern outskirts.

The Federal Office for civil protection in Germany issued a warning to residents, recommending them to keep any pets indoors.

When asked where the wild animal came from, a police official stated it was unclear.

He further said that there were several facilities in the vicinity that may house a lion, such as zoos and a circus, but that none of these places had reported a missing animal.
