Two junior resident doctors at Uttar Pradesh Medical University in Safai faced suspension after videos of them physically assaulting patients surfaced on social media. The incident, which occurred in the orthopedics department, came to light when the videos were allegedly recorded by another patient on July 10 and 11, and subsequently went viral on July 15. The matter was reported to the police and an FIR against them was filed.
Taking swift action in response to the disturbing videos, Uttar Pradesh Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak instructed the university administration to conduct a thorough investigation. Following the preliminary investigation by the university administration, Junior resident doctors identified as Tuhinagshu Das and Aman Srivastav were found guilty and subsequently suspended.
Safai Police Station’s Station House Officer, Mohammad Kamil, confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation based on a complaint filed by one of the patients.
In a separate incident earlier this month, two men, Joseneel Cyrus (26) and Robin Roshan (27), assaulted a young doctor at Ernakulam General Hospital in Kerala. The assailants attacked Dr. Harish Mohammed (25) at 1:30 am in the hospital’s cafeteria. The two accused, who had previous NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases registered against them, were later arrested by the police.
