PM Modi Links India’s Space Triumphs To Africa During Ghana Parliament Address

During his address to the Parliament of Ghana on Thursday, PM Narendra Modi drew a symbolic parallel between India’s space milestones and his presence in Africa.

He remarked that Africa has been connected to many of India’s proudest moments in space, underscoring a deeper bond between the continent and India’s scientific achievements.

“When India landed the Chandrayaan mission on the moon’s south pole, I was in Africa that day too. And today, an Indian astronaut, for a brighter future of humanity, is conducting experiments onboard the space station. I am once again in Africa,” PM Modi said, drawing applause from the Ghanaian lawmakers.

India’s space legacy is tied to landmark African visits

The Prime Minister referred to two historic events:

  • Chandrayaan-3’s successful moon landing on August 23, 2023, which he watched live from Johannesburg while attending the 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa.
  • The current Axiom Mission 4, which launched on June 25, 2025, features Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the second Indian in space and the first to reach the International Space Station (ISS).

PM Modi hailed Group Captain Shukla’s mission as a contribution to the brighter future of humanity, showcasing India’s rising role in global space exploration.

India’s innovation and inclusive growth model praised

Highlighting India’s broader progress, PM Modi stated, “India now has the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem. We are a hub of innovation and technology where global companies want to converge. The world also recognises India as the pharmacy of the world.”

He also celebrated the leadership of Indian women in diverse sectors, including science, space, aviation, and sports, while reaffirming India’s commitment to becoming a developed nation by 2047, marking 100 years of independence.

Reinforcing India’s commitment to development partnerships, the Prime Minister said, “India’s growth touches the lives of every citizen. As Ghana continues its journey of prosperity, India will walk shoulder to shoulder with you on that road.”

Following his speech, PM Modi interacted with members of the Indian diaspora in Ghana, who greeted him with warmth and enthusiasm, reflecting the strong emotional ties between India and its global community.

PM Modi heads to Trinidad and Tobago

After concluding the first leg of his five-nation tour in Accra, PM Modi departed for Trinidad and Tobago, where he will stay from July 3 to 4.

This marks his first-ever visit to the Caribbean nation as Prime Minister and the first Indian Prime Ministerial visit since 1999.

During the second leg of the tour, PM Modi will hold high-level meetings and address the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago.

He will then continue his journey to Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.

In Brazil, from July 5 to 8, he will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit 2025 before heading to Namibia for a state visit.
