A deputy chief of the Nalgarh civic body was among the 128 individuals killed in yesterday’s devastating earthquake. When a 6.4 magnitude earthquake occurred just before midnight in Jajarkot, a remote highland hamlet in Nepal, houses crumbled.
According to officials, Sarita Singh, deputy chief of the Nalgarh municipality in Jajarkot, was killed in the earthquake.
The tremor was felt in Kathmandu and nearby areas, as well as in New Delhi.
The Nepal Army mobilized its forces shortly after the earthquake on Friday to carry out rescue operations at the disaster site.
According to state-run Nepal Television, the quake struck the Jajarkot and Rukum districts of western Nepal the hardest.
Nepal is located in a geologically active region where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates clash, resulting in regular earthquakes.
