China responded on Monday to G7 leaders’ warning to halt selling weapons components to Russia, claiming their end-of-summit statement was full of arrogance, prejudice, and lies.
When Group of Seven leaders convened in Italy last week, they discussed strained trade relations with Beijing, as well as concerns over Ukraine and the South China Sea.
According to the statement released following the summit, China was supplying dual-use materials to Russia to bolster Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
The G7 declaration, which used tougher language than at last year’s summit, also condemned China’s militarisation, and coercive and intimidation activities in the South China Sea.
Lin Jian, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, said that the statement had slandered and attacked China.
At a regular press briefing, Lin stated, “It contained rehashed cliches that have no factual basis, no legal basis, and no moral justification, and are full of arrogance, prejudice, and lies”.
